How to apply for access?

Researchers can apply for access to an NGC Cloud, as well as read access to the National Genome Database, by sending an application to NGC Research Service.

Please note that in order to gain access to the infrastructure, researchers need to collaborate with a Danish research institution and work within the field of personalised medicine.

About the application process

You will need to complete an application form to apply for access to an NGC Cloud. Access to NGC Cloud requires that you have already received all necessary approvals to gather and process data as outlined in your research project description.

Your research project must be authorized by the Danish Health Data Authority or Statistics Denmark. If your research project is not yet authorized, you must apply for authorization alongside your application to use the NGC Research Infrastructure.

Read access to the National Genome Database

It is not yet possible to gain read access to the Danish National Genome Database. We will publish an update on this webpage when we open up for researchers to apply for access.

Data from the National Genome Database cannot leave the NGC Research Infrastructure. Therefore, read access to data in the National Genome Database requires that researchers have access to an NGC Cloud.

Overview of an application process

Step 1 – Necessary approvals need to be obtained prior to application

Before you apply for access to an NGC Cloud, you must ensure that you have received all necessary approvals for gathering and processing data. The relevant Committee on Health Research Ethics (National or Regional) must approve your project before you can apply for read access to the National Genome Database. If you have not attached all relevant approvals, NGC Research Services cannot process your application.

Step 2 – Filling out the application form

In the application form, you must describe your project and how you expect to use the supercomputer. We will review your application and assess to what extent your research project fulfills the requirements of having a purpose within personalised medicine, and providing a significant societal benefit. We will confirm that we have received your application within a week.

We will provide a response to your application within five weeks. If your application results in an agreement on access to NGC infrastructure, you will be charged an administration fee of DKK 5,000.

Step 3 – Clarifying technical needs

Once you have received confirmation regarding access to an NGC Cloud, we will help clarify how your research project best can utilize the supercomputer. One of the advisors at Research Services will spar with you to determine the most appropriate configuration for your project, as well as identifying opportunities for merging different data sources.

Step 4 – Preparing the contract

Before you sign a contract with the Danish National Genome Center, you must fill out an order form, where you specify your technical needs. Once the order form has been completed, the Principal Investigator (PI), and the associated authorized research institution, will enter a contract with the Danish National Genome Center. The contract describes terms of use, payment obligations, and other relevant information.

Step 5 – Accessing NGC Cloud

After you have entered a contractual agreement with the Danish National Genome Center, it can take a few weeks before your NGC Cloud is configured. You will receive information on how to access your NGC Cloud once it is ready.

You are always welcome to contact NGC Research Services (forskning@ngc.dk) to discuss your needs and opportunities regarding access to NGC's infrastructure.
